Waiver Services
As a DD Waiver Provider, families who have a loved one already on a waiver can use Medicaid funding to pay for Therapeutic Consultation Services with Restoration & Recreation.
This means that these services may come out to no out-of-pocket costs to eligible families.

Therapeutic Consultation
We teach and train caregivers how to improve quality of life — equipping them with practical tools, strategies, and confidence to better support the individuals in their care, so that every day feels less like a challenge and more like an opportunity for connection and growth.
Recreation Therapy
Recreation therapy uses meaningful activities — like games, movement, and creative pursuits — as clinical tools to improve a person's emotional, social, and physical wellbeing. The goal is simple: when people have purposeful ways to engage with life, they heal and function better.
Licensed Professional counseling
Our Licensed Professional Counseling services provide a safe, confidential space to work through life's emotional and psychological challenges — with a trained, licensed clinician guiding you every step of the way.

The Virginia Developmental Disabilities (DD) Waiver is a Medicaid program that provides individualized support and services to help people with developmental disabilities live safely and independently in their homes and communities.
It offers a range of medical, behavioral, and daily‑living supports as community‑based alternatives to institutional care. -
To qualify, the disability must be permanent, impact physical and/or mental abilities (other than a sole diagnosis of mental illness), have occurred before age 22, and cause functional limitations in 3 or more areas for adults — such as self-care, communication, learning, mobility, self-direction, or capacity for independent living.
Eligibility is based on diagnostic, functional, and financial criteria, though importantly, a parent's income does not count against the applicant.

The first step is contacting your local Community Services Board (CSB) and asking for a screening for the DD Waiver. You'll need to provide documentation of the disability, such as psychological evaluations, medical reports, or therapy records.

Our Process
REFERRAL
Your support coordinator will complete and submit our Referral Form.
Initial Meeting
We schedule a meeting between our team and your support coordinator and/or guardian. In this meeting, we will discuss needs, expected outcomes, and background.
Request to DBHDS
We at Restoration & Recreation will request hours to DBHDS (Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services).
Sessions
Once approved from DBHDS, we will start our sessions with you to work towards your goals.

Personalized
Our initial sessions will be dedicated to assessing current levels of functioning, whether in social skills or executive functioning, and creating a personalized plan to fit your unique needs and goals.
Targeted
Together, we will identify targeted goals and the path to successfully meet them. Meetings will happen 1:1 and as a larger group to determine progress.
Integrative
Since achieving quality of life is made up of many facets, we’ll be guiding you toward other helpful practices such as mindfulness training, aromatherapy, recommending other therapy consultative services, and more.
